SONY is set to make an emoji-themed movie in a reported seven-figure deal bt which of our favourite emoticons will be brought to life?
Deadline reports that Warner Bros and Paramount both bid for the rights to make the film but that Sony aggressively won the day.
Anthony Leondis, the director behind such animated films as Kung Fu Panda and Lilo & Stitch 2, will helm the project as well as co-write the screenplay.
He is yet to comment publicly on how the script might play out or whether we will see the salsa dancer, the running man or the standard smiley face will be in the picture.
“Leondis pitched the project around to studios, with storyboards for how the movie would play out,” Deadline said.
The pick-up comes following the success of the Lego Movie — a seemingly unconventional idea for a film that made big bucks at the box office.
Unlike Lego, there are no underlying rights to purchase so Sony might not be the only studio planning to run something out on emojis.
